wednesday whizz!
Wednesday’s are so whizzy. Some talk at 11, then syslunch at 12, then meetings at 1 or 2, then there’s the donut bagel hour at 3. I mean, I love it! Why aren’t all days like this?
The topic of American democracy came up again in our discussions. Not only there has been a conspicuous absence of females and blacks in this country’s policital scene, other minorities like Jews, people with countries of origin other than the US have been just as under-represented. And this is after 300 years of democracy! I’m appalled, to say the least. It certainly goes a long way in saying something about the American people and the culture. I’m not making any judgemental remarks here, I’m merely stating a fact.
Look at India, on the other hand. World’s largest democracy, developing country, bordering on the third world, a little more than 50 years old. The current prime minister is a Sikh, and a woman *almost* became the prime minister before him (she declined) *and* her country of origin is Italy! Not only that, the current President is a Muslim, and the previous Prime Minister was a Hindu. And this is just the top posts, as one goes down the hierarchy, one can see more and more diversity.
There are other things as well that bother me about the politics of this country. Check out this page that shows the election results statewise correlating the results with the average IQ in the states. What do you say about that??
