Repeat after me
//So pissed!//, please repeat after me:
* **Arjun Singh is stupid**: history repeats itself, yes, but we are also expected to learn from our mistakes. Exactly what the honorable minister does not understand about the tremendous back-lash against Mandal more than a decade ago, or the protesting students and professionals all around the country today, I just can’t understand. Is he deaf, blind or just plain dumb?
* **Caste should not supercede merit**: Reservations are about equality of opportunity. Take measures so that the under-privileged have the //opportunity// to compete fairly for seats in premier institutes. Those who prove themselves worthy should //not// be denied the opportunity!! Blindly increasing reservations will NOT help anyone!!!!! I feel like screaming. argh!!!
* **Increasing total number of seats is NOT a solution**: [[http://in.rediff.com/news/2006/may/19quota1.htm|It seems]] that our brilliant leaders have come up with a truly ingenious scheme to pacify everyone — increase the total number of seats as well. First, I don’t see how that solves the problem of fscking **50%** reservations??!! Secondly, you can’t increase the number of seats overnight. It will take //years// for that to happen. Do all IITs and IIMs even have the space, infrastructure and resources to grow like this??
* **Stop the hypocrisy**: Why isn’t there any reservation in the Parliament?
* **Stop the violence!!**: Students are being beaten up by the police at peaceful demonstrations. WTF? At Mumbai, then at Delhi. Is everyone just so indifferent to not notice? And whats the deal with the engineering colleges? Why are only the medicos making such a big deal? Are the IITians ok with this? I’m copying below the results of the survey done by the IITK Alumni Association:
The Hon’ble Minister, Human Resources Development, Government of India (GOI), had recently indicated that GOI intends to introduce reservations for OBCs in admissions to IITs, IIMs and other similar institutions. The Board of Directors of AA considered this issue and sought the views of members of AA through a web poll. The voting was done only among registered members of the IIT Kanpur Alumni Association through the Alumni Association web-site. This web poll was open from 24 April 2006 to 8 May 2006.
We tabulate, here below, the views of the members of AA that have emerged from the web poll:
1 Do you think reservations, as they are planned to be implemented in higher education, will harm the brand of IITK?
Agree: 95 % Don’t Agree: 4 % Don’t Know: 1 %
2. Do you think reservations, as they are planned to be implemented in higher education, will harm India’s competitiveness in the global knowledge economy?
Agree: 94 % Don’t Agree: 5 % Don’t Know: 2 %
3. Do you support IITK AA taking an active stand against the implementation of reservations as planned?
Agree: 95 % Don’t Agree: 4 % Don’t Know: 2 %
4. Do you support the Govt. making significant investments in primary and secondary education to enhance opportunities for OBC as an alternative measure than additional reservations in IIT’s and IIM’s and institutes of higher learning?
Agree: 92 % Don’t Agree: 6 % Don’t Know: 2 %
The total number of votes polled was 1851.
**What is there not to understand about the above results?**
PS: Rediff has [[http://in.rediff.com/news/quota06.html|good coverage of the issue]].
He is not blind, deaf or dumb. Just verysmart and trying to strengthen his vote bank, and projec this “holier than thou” image.
DO you think he evn cares what happens to the “backward” classes??
Honestly, enough bullshit. But even as I say this, we know its bound to happen….can we stop them? how?
hii,
you are right!i read your previous post also on this.Arjun singh is a complete assh!@#.
he is only & only interested in vote bank politics..he is just trying to strenghthen his position inside congress(‘see i can win votes for you still…’).
i am from r.e.c bhopal and he also hails frm MP State(he was C.M there in 80′s.)
he has a reputation of being one of the most corrupt politician & he cares like 1 bit for the people.
and because of the sensitivity of the situation none political parties wud oppose it (as it maligns their contention–’we care for backword and poor blah blah’)
thank goodness i am thru all this mess 4 years ago!
sid
ps:i was your junior in DPS bhilai, and a recent pass out frm REC bhopal.
Hey, I thought that Arjun Singh was a decent old chap when he ‘cleaned up’ the NCERT issue. Now I see he’s as bad as the rest, and this is his own dirty work of a different kind. Probably didn’t do squat with the NCERT thing anyhow, and probably glorified the Nehru’s excessively. Haven;t read them though.
Read this, if you haven’t already :-

This will bring you to the state I am in -> If only I can lay my hands on this Arjun Singh, I would set an example!
*@chandni*: after his interview, you really think he’s “smart”? I think he just so full of himself! As for stopping them, pata nahin yaar. I feel so bad thinking of those AIIMS students. You know they wrote to the President asking permission to die? I wish I could do a bit more for them…
*@sid*: Hey buddy! Sorry, I have a really bad memory. What batch were you in? BTW, is REC Bhopal same as MANIT/MACT? I have a cousin studying there… what year did you graduate?
*@hasan*: First time around here? :-) I think he’s just an old-chap whose time has come. Seriously, it scares me when I start thinking of how we blindly believe what we’re taught in school and then years later you find out it was all rigged by these politicians.
*@gauraw*: arey yaar mat pooch, sar phodne ka man kar raha tha padh kar!! Gawd!! arghhh!!!

Read your blog.Liked it a lot.Here is mine http://www.emotionalzombie.blogspot.com/
“You say, if a student knows a seat is reserved for him he is not going to work towards it. Ask yourself- If a person knows Education is subsidized for his kids, food items are subsidized for him, is he going to work? Isn’t it harming the Economy? Isn’t the highly subsidized education we avail a classic example of social injustice? “
