I haven’t given much thought to it yet, but Canonical’s recent decisions seem to be creating more of a rift in the Ubuntu and GNOME communities than ever before. I run the Ubuntu Netbook Edition (based on Unity) on our media center PC and I personally liked the old UI much better. So as of now, I’m not too excited about Unity.

Yes. Given that it is still just a shell over the GNOME base, Gnome by itself is going to receive lesser love from Canonical now.

Also OpenSuSE are KDE lovers. They have put together a stable distro too. Fedora has good support for both KDE and Gnome and F14 KDE 4.5 is rock solid
