And promotional offers from idiot phone carriers that want to entice you to give up your current cell phone’s real number – done! Any time! If you change phones every 3 months, Net10 can be Net6.6. ;-)

I think they have become commoditized to the extent that I actually would mind paying for them. In particular, I don’t use gmail as my primary email — it is mostly a archival and search interface for me. I do use Google Apps For Your Domain, but even there it is not a strict necessity.
