Moving the required text on paper to your eyesight is easier than scrolling with mouse/down arrow as the later requires little attention to get it right.

Please point me to research on this subject if you come across. It would be intersting to learn the details.

First of all, a fixed width layout is much easier/cleaner/portable than a fluid one (in terms of code) :) Secondly, I think there is research showing that humans don’t like reading long lines of text — the same reason why _all_ news papers and magazines use several short columns. So on a wide screen I actually _don’t_ want my text to be too wide. You don’t agree?
